Open both documents for the exact product and record their references in the job file. The label explains the authorised use; the SDS gives the chemical-hazard information you need for handling and for the workplace assessment. Keep the two documents identifiable together when you prepare a spraying job.
Find pesticide labels and the PCS label of one product
The label index lists every entry as number, name and years, for example “02365 - Depitox - 2020 to date”. The index includes MCPA labels: “05494 - POL-MCPA 500 SL - 2024 to date”, “05510 - Mastercrop MCPA 50 - 2016 to date” and “05765 - HY-MCPA 500 - 2017 to date”.
The Plant Protection Products Database is searched by product name, active substance or function/crop. The Irish register guide covers that search.
Write down the container’s complete name before you open a PDF, including suffixes and formulation descriptions. Put the pack beside the downloaded document and compare the registration number character by character. If they differ, resolve it before you copy any application instruction into a job plan.
A broad search for “MCPA label” or “pesticide labels” can lead you to the Irish index, but it does not identify your pack. A familiar brand on an overseas website is only a starting point for an enquiry: keep the country, supplier and product number in view throughout the comparison.
Identity panel of the Elatus Era label
The Elatus Era specimen label carries the product name, the PCS number 05379, the UFI 8QFS-5537-T007-X51G, the authorisation holder Syngenta UK Limited and the marketing company Syngenta Ireland Limited. The edition is printed as “Specimen 2024 to date”.
| Printed on the label | Elatus Era |
|---|---|
| Product name | ELATUS® Era |
| PCS No | 05379 |
| UFI | 8QFS-5537-T007-X51G |
| Authorisation Holder | Syngenta UK Limited |
| Marketing Company | Syngenta Ireland Limited, Waterford |
| Edition | Specimen 2024 to date |
Save a readable image of the identity panel together with the full PDF. If a supplier sends a different edition, compare the wording and ask which one belongs with the product you were supplied; keep both files and the explanation for the change. Repeat the identity and crop-use check for every fungicide you buy. For a herbicide, do the same comparison with that herbicide’s own Irish documents.
The SDS repeats the identity in section 1: “Product Registration Number : PCS 05379 Unique Formula Identifier (UFI) : 8QFS-5537-T007-X51G”, with Syngenta Ireland Limited as supplier.
Conditions of use on the Elatus Era label
The label table gives the maximum individual dose in litres per hectare per crop, the maximum number of treatments per crop and the latest time of application.
| Crop | Maximum individual dose (litres/hectare/crop) | Maximum treatments per crop | Latest time of application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Winter and spring wheat, rye and triticale | 1.0 | 1 | Up to and including anthesis complete (GS 69) |
| Winter and spring barley and oats | 1.0 | 1 | Up to and including complete ear emergence (GS 59) |
| Combining peas, field beans | 0.66 | 1 | Up to and including 20% of pods have reached typical length (GS 72) |
| Linseed/flax | 0.66 | 1 | Up to and including end of flowering (GS 69) |
Other specific restrictions on the label: the earliest time of application is GS31 on cereals, GS51 on combining peas and field beans, and GS32 on linseed/flax. A maximum of 2 foliar applications of products containing SDHIs can be applied to any cereal crop. The product must not be applied via hand-held equipment, and it is for use by tractor mounted/trailed sprayer only. Reduced application rates and split applications of SDHI products must not be used.
Read the crop, dose, number of treatments and latest application timing together, then continue through the restrictions under the table. When you make a working note, keep the original column heading above each value and keep the dose unit attached to the dose. Do not turn a growth-stage limit into a remembered number of days.
Highlight the row for your crop without deleting the rest of the document, and mark the separate restrictions that also apply to that row. A common transcription slip is copying a dose from one row beside the crop name from another: read across the original row, then check your note back against the PDF. If the equipment you plan to use does not match the label’s application method, settle that before the batch is prepared, and have the operator confirm the crop, method and equipment before the office calculates the batch. The interval-record guide covers recording application timing.
Operator protection on the label, by task
The Elatus Era label sets protection separately for three tasks.
| Task | Required on the label |
|---|---|
| Handling the concentrate | Suitable protective clothing (coveralls), suitable protective gloves and face protection (faceshield) |
| During application | Suitable protective clothing (coveralls) |
| Handling contaminated surfaces | Suitable protective clothing (coveralls) and suitable protective gloves |
The label adds: wash splashes from skin immediately; do not eat, drink or smoke when using; wash hands and exposed skin before meals and after work. It also requires an unsprayed buffer zone of 10 m to surface waters, which STRIPE (Surface water Tool for Reducing the Impact of Pesticides in the Environment) can reduce, and requires the container to be rinsed three times with the washings added to the sprayer at filling.
The SDS specifies the equipment in section 8. Eye protection: tightly fitting safety goggles to EN 166. Gloves: nitrile rubber, break through time over 480 min, thickness 0.5 mm, satisfying Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and EN 374. Respiratory protection above the exposure limit: respirator with a particle filter (EN 143), filter type particulates (P). The PPE and risk-assessment guide links these to the assessed activity.
Think about who does each task: who opens the pack, who drives the sprayer, who later cleans or maintains it. Give each person the label and SDS passages for their task, because maintenance can call for different information from the person preparing the application. If the glove material, respirator filter or replacement schedule is unclear, ask the supplier; a pictogram alone does not specify them. File the answer with the risk assessment so whoever buys the equipment knows what to order.
The 16 headings of a safety data sheet
An SDS must follow Annex II of the REACH Regulation as amended by Regulation (EU) 2020/878 and contains 16 headings: 1 Identification of the substance/mixture and of the company/undertaking, 2 Hazards identification, 3 Composition/information on ingredients, 4 First-aid measures, 5 Fire-fighting measures, 6 Accidental release measures, 7 Handling and storage, 8 Exposure controls/personal protection, 9 Physical and chemical properties, 10 Stability and reactivity, 11 Toxicological information, 12 Ecological information, 13 Disposal considerations, 14 Transport information, 15 Regulatory information, 16 Other information. The information in an SDS should be “specific to the chemical and not generic”. The date of issue or revision is on the first page and all pages are numbered.
Open the heading that matches the task: heading 1 for the supplier and emergency number, 2 for hazard wording, 4 and 6 for first aid and spills, 7 for storage and handling, 8 for protective equipment, 10 for incompatible materials, 13 for waste. Read the product’s own text under the heading before you decide what it means for your workplace; a generic safety summary is no substitute for the issued SDS. Keep the full SDS available even if the job folder holds a short reading note, and keep any annex with the main file.
| SDS heading | Elatus Era SDS 11.4 |
|---|---|
| 1 Identification | Supplier Syngenta Ireland Limited, Waterford; Poisons Information Centre of Ireland +353 (1) 809 2166 for members of the public (8.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. 7 days a week) and +353 (1) 809 2566 for healthcare professionals (24-hour service) |
| 2 Hazards identification | Signal word Warning; H317, H319, H335 and H410 |
| 4 First-aid measures | Eye contact: rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes; have the container, label or SDS with you when calling the emergency number |
| 7 Handling and storage | Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place, out of the reach of children and away from food, drink and animal feedingstuffs |
| 13 Disposal considerations | Triple rinse containers; do not re-use empty containers; waste code 15 01 10 for uncleaned packagings |
Hazard wording on the Elatus Era label and in the SDS
The label and the SDS state the same four hazards: May cause an allergic skin reaction (H317); Causes serious eye irritation (H319); May cause respiratory irritation (H335); Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H410).
Compare like with like: registration number against registration number, UFI against UFI, hazard panel against the SDS hazard heading. Put them side by side and, if they differ, quote the exact phrase and name both editions in your message to the supplier rather than editing either document to make them agree. Keep the product name visible on printed extracts, so a loose safety page does not end up in the wrong folder in a busy season.
Roundup data sheet: glyphosate safety data sheet
The supplier of a hazardous mixture must provide the SDS free of charge, on paper or electronically, no later than the first delivery. When the SDS is sent electronically, the link must lead to the specific SDS of the product supplied; a link to the website where all SDSs are located is not acceptable. A professional user who buys a product in consumer packaging gets the SDS from the retailer at the user’s request.
To get the data sheet for a Roundup pack, give the supplier the complete product name and the Irish registration number from the container and ask for the matching SDS and label. Then compare their identity and edition details as above. If a search returns a document for a different formulation, do not use its handling instructions until the mismatch is resolved.
Take the SDS from the supplier’s product page, match its identifier to the pack and label, and record the printed revision date separately from the date you downloaded it. For an emailed attachment, ask the sender which supplier page it came from and note the original filename and edition: a file received today can still be an older revision. If the trade name or registration number does not match, return the discrepancy to the supplier with the pages attached and say exactly which element differs.
Label, SDS and tank-mix list are three documents
The Syngenta Ireland product page for Elatus Era lists three downloads: “ELATUS ERA Tank Mix List”, “ELATUS Era Safety Data Sheet” and “ELATUS ERA Product Label”.
The tank-mix list and the SDS answer different questions: the list covers the manufacturer’s compatibility evidence, the SDS the chemical-safety information. If an adviser suggests a mixture, name every partner product and get its own documents. File the compatibility reference with the proposed job and the safety documents with the risk assessment. A partner appearing on an old list does not answer a question about a different crop, timing or product status. The tank-mix guide covers the full workflow; give the exact name, country and edition in your enquiry, so an answer about one formulation is not applied to another.
Editions and updates
The Elatus Era SDS is version 11.4, revision date 20.06.2024, SDS number S00035335784, with the date of last issue 16.02.2022 and the date of first issue 13.06.2017. A supplier must update an SDS without delay when new hazard or risk-management information becomes available, when an authorisation is granted or refused for a substance, or when a restriction is imposed. The revised SDS carries the revision date and states what was added, deleted or revised, which can be in section 16. The supplier sends it free of charge to every recipient supplied in the preceding 12 months.
Keep an index with the product, document type, printed version, issuer, source address and the date you accessed it. When a new edition arrives, compare what changed in identity, conditions, protection, storage and emergency information. Keep the earlier edition marked as historical instead of leaving several apparently current PDFs in one download folder. Link past application records to the document you actually used at the time, and use the newer edition for future planning once any discrepancy is resolved. For a contractor handover, list which documents came with the instruction and which were sent later, and keep the message that explains a changed reference.
If part of a PDF is unclear, send the supplier the product, PCS number, crop or situation, edition and the exact passage, and say whether the question is about identity, conditions of use, safety or conflicting documents. If the edition does not match, ask for the replacement document; if the identity matches but the wording is unclear, ask for an explanation. Check that the reply covers your product and task, and file it with the job or assessment without altering the issued documents.
Pesticide MSDS: the safety data sheet under its older name
People still say MSDS for what is now called the safety data sheet, SDS. Ask the supplier for the SDS of the exact product on your pack; the supplier of a hazardous mixture must provide it free of charge. The pack identifies the product by name and PCS number, not by the colour of the label or the pack, so compare those two before you read any document.
Herbicide label by brand name or active ingredient: what the PCS register lists
Look up a herbicide label by the name printed on the pack, then compare the PCS number. The Plant Protection Products Database is searched by product name or active substance. The table gives the register entries for herbicide names that farmers and contractors search with the word “label” or “active ingredient”, as the register stood on 28 October 2026.

None of these names is in the PCS register, either among authorised products or among recently withdrawn ones, so there is no Irish label to download for them. What to do instead: take the active substance from the overseas label, look up the Irish product with the same active substance in the PCS register, and use the Irish label of that product. If one of these names is printed on a pack in your store, send the supplier the pack photograph and ask which Irish product it corresponds to before you use it.
No product authorised in Ireland contains atrazine, eptc, flumetsulam, flumioxazin, glufosinate, hexazinone, linuron, metolachlor, metribuzin, oxyfluorfen, paraquat, quinclorac, simazine or tebuthiuron, so there is no Irish label for these substances.
For a search such as “parallel pcs herbicide label”, search the register by the PCS number printed on your pack.
For a 2,4-D ester herbicide label, the register lists New Rate 2,4-D Ester (PCS 02721).
For Diamond, Echo 720, Elite and Rescue, the register lists only products that share a word of the name but are other products: Headland Diamond (PCS 92141, plant oils), Echo Pro (PCS 06754, fluroxypyr), Instrata Elite (PCS 05399, difenoconazole and fludioxonil) and Westland Plant Rescue Fruit & Vegetable Bug Killer (PCS 04033, lambda-cyhalothrin). Compare the active substance on your pack before you treat either name as the same product.
MCPA herbicide dosage is printed in the dose table of the label of the MCPA product on your pack, such as the MCPA labels named at the top of this page.
A restricted use pesticide label is an overseas term: in Ireland, read the conditions of use and operator protection on the Irish label of the product, as shown above for Elatus Era.
Round Up is spelled Roundup in the register: see the Roundup rows in the table above.
Roundup herbicide directions for use are on the label of the Roundup product on your pack: the register lists several, see the Roundup rows in the table above.
Fungicide label by brand name: what the PCS register lists
Tartan 360-K and Tartan Hi-Load K (PCS 07620 and 07621) list glyphosate, a herbicide substance, so it is not a fungicide. A fungicide label is found the same way: exact product name, then PCS number, then the specimen label in the index. The table covers fungicide names searched with “label” or “active ingredient”, as the register stood on 28 October 2026.
